I am running OSX version 10.5.4 and unfortunately, the process VDCAssistant did not exist in lsof's output or any of the other suggestions that were provided. Skyrim open beta. I was running Mountain Lion in a Parallels 11 virtual machine, and had a crash log generated repeatedly as described in the Question, with names such as VDCAssistant2015-50localhost.crash. The repeated crashes started only after launching Google Chrome.
Today I connected my MacBook Pro 15' (Late 2016) to an Apple Thunderbolt Display, using a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. When I closed my MBp and tried to Skype, the camera of the Thunderbolt Display did respond—I only saw a black screen where I expected to see myself.

The issue stems from an issue with a piece of software called VDCAssistant, which has been part of Mac OS X for a few revisions. Copy clip 2 9 5 – clipboard manager duties. For some reason, it's not activating the camera when needed.

Stephen's solution is to stop and restart this daemon with the following command:
Flash drive for macbook air. After running this command, the camera worked fine. 😎
